The Client

The Workforce Investment Board is a City of Long Beach department that also provides services to other Pacific Gateway communities including Signal Hill, Carson, Lomita, San Pedro, Torrance, and more.

Their goal is to build quality services that support the workforce needs of the Pacific Gateway community. They sponsor a wide range of services for businesses and residents at our various one-stop career center locations throughout the area.

Bryan Rogers, the new Executive Director, and their LA-based marketing firm StudioELREY, came to Juxtaflo wanting us to completely revamp their website.

The Challenge

The Workforce Board had great information on their site but it was often hard to find and, in some circumstances, was found in multiple places. Visually, well, let's just say the site would've been great for an extreme website makeover show.

The 2nd challenge was that the site needed to integrate with the City of Long Beach's website, both visually and technically. We had to use the top bar, their left-hand navigation design.

The final challenge we faced was due to a business shift at the Long Beach Workforce Board. Midway through the project, the Workforce Board expanded their services to the surrounding Pacific Gateway areas. This meant revisiting content, working with StudioELREY to integrate their new logos, and creating new banners.

But these challenges only made it interesting and we jumped in right away and began to tackle the new site.

The Solution

Juxtaflo began by tackling the content. We throughly reviewed the old site, and provided a proposal to reorganize the content. After a few adjustments to the content plan, we were ready to tackle the graphic design. We knew that Bryan liked clean lines, uncluttered web sites, images of our fair city Long Beach, and clear navigation (so do we!) so it was a snap finalizing the graphic direction. We added a few enhancements as well. We created a new design for the Announcements module, shown on the right side of the main pages. And our design god Dave cranked out some of the coolest icons for Contact Us, Calendars, and Reports. This project was highly rewarding. Bryan, Steven of StudioELREY, and the Juxtaflo team worked quickly and nimbly together to tackle each of challenges as they arose. And in the end, we're all quite proud of the new Long Beach Workforce Board's website!
