The Client
The New City School is a K-8 public charter school located in downtown Long Beach, California. The educational program emphasizes bilingualism / multiculturalism, creative expression, reasoning, health and community engagement. The school offers 190 elementary and middle school students an alternative to the large and often impersonal traditional education system so it can best meet the needs of our urban community, in particular those families of English Language Learners in low-income households.
The Challenge
The New City School came to us in need of a website that could convey the creativity and individuality of the school, while ensuring a simple navigation for all website visitors. Search engines were not an issue because the main users would be the parents of the students.
The Solution
To meet the business objectives of The New City School, Juxtaflo created a full Flash
website that stretches the full height and width of any screen and browser, whether small or large. For the home page, we used bright images of daisies to represent both student growth and the garden that the school's students actively maintain. The site is fully bilingual and has a dynamic news area that can be updated easily by the school staff.
